1.       What are the dimensions of the CUBE?

All our cubes are 23" H x 19 1/2" W x 17 1/4" D except the CD 400 and Component 400. The CD 400 and Component 400 are 29 3/4" H x 19 1/2" W x 17 1/4" D.

2. What are the CUBEs made out of?

The CUBEs are made out of veneer sheet goods (plywood) and hardwoods. The sides, top panel and drawer fronts are cut from veneer sheet goods and all the corners and drawer pulls are made form solid oak. The cabinet is assembled by hand using glue blocks and dowels. The reason we do not make the CUBEs entirely out of solid oak is because of the tendency for solid oak to split, warp and crack. This does not happen with sheet goods. Your CUBE looks like solid oak but doesn't act like it.

3. Do I have to assemble the CUBE?

All of our products come fully assembled, with the exception of the component cubes with glass doors. All you have to do is take them out of the box, put them where you want them and start using them.

4. Why is the shipping so expensive?

Shipping the CUBE's is expensive because of their size and weight.

5. What are the shipping costs (USA)? (International)?

Shipping is figured in real time by UPS using your zipcode and the weight of each item you order. Shipments by ground and 2nd day air are the options available within the continental US, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

International shipments require that you contact Lorentz Design either by E-mail or phone (1-800-933-0403) so we may detemine shipping costs.

6. Can I stack the CUBEs?

The CUBEs can be stacked and many of our customers order several and stack them on top of each other. We do not recommend that you stack more than 2 high.  For stacking we recommend you purchase our stacking blocks available on the accesories page of our website.

7. How do I stack the CUBEs?

An example is shown on the stacking blocks page.

8. How do the drawers work?

The drawers glide open on full extension metal and ball bearing drawer slides. The drawer slides are rated to hold about 75 pounds per pair and a drawer full of CDs weighs about 35-40 pounds. Full extension drawer slides also make it possible for you to access the CDs in the back of the drawer as easily as the ones in the front. The cabinet should not tip over if you have a drawer full of CDs and you fully extend it. However, to ensure stability we recommend you load the drawers evenly so that even if you fully extend a loaded drawer there will be enough weight in the other drawers to make absolutely sure that the cabinet doesn't tip forward.

9. How does the ALLSTOP storage system work?

The ALLSTOP STORAGE SYSTEM is a multi format Storage system utilizing a velcro® lined drawer bottom and triangular shaped stops. The entire drawer bottom is lined with a very low pile velcro® type material (the fuzzy side of velcro®). The Allstop is a triangular shaped piece of molded plastic about 1 1/2 inches high by 2 1/2 inches long and 3/4 inch wide that has the prickly side of velcro® on the bottom. These Allstops go behind or in front of your partial rows of formats to hold the rows upright when opening and closing the drawers. The dividers are 1/2" tubular plastic and run the depth of the drawer. These dividers can be moved left to right to divide rows of any types of formats. As you start to fill up the row, simply remove the Allstop altogether and finish filling the row with formats.

10. What about the finish?

Our standard stained finish is a hand rubbed oil finish in a Natural, Medium or Dark color. The stain we use has some natural sealers in it and requires a periodic application of a lemon based furniture polish to keep your CUBEs looking new. Our Natural is a clear oil stain and makes the oak look a little yellowish-blond like natural oak floors. Our Medium color is a medium walnut stain and is a mid-tone brown (this is our most popular color). Our Dark finish is a dark walnut finish and makes the grain very dark. Our Black finish is not thick like a piano like finish, but rather a  finish in which you can see the pattern of the grain. First the CUBE is sealed, then painted black lacquer and finished with a clear semi-gloss lacquer topcoat.

11. Can I get a clear lacquer finish for the Natural, Medium or Dark stain?

For an extra charge (see Lacquer Finish option on product page ) we will be happy to apply a lacquer finish to any stained CUBE, or CASTER BASE you order.

top

12. What is the back of the CUBE like?

The standard back of the CUBE is a brown Masonite®-like material and is for placement against a wall or another piece of furniture.

top

13. Can I have an oak back put on the CUBE?

For an extra charge (
see Oak Back option, place cursor on small picture under the product you are viewing) we will be happy to put an oak back on your CUBE. This option is necessary if you intend to place your CUBE where the back will be seen.

14. I did not get a confirmation of my order. Why?
